I worked with Shelby for nearly a year and in that time grew, not only as an athlete, but as a person.  After my first session with him, I jumped on his method of training.  Shelby helped prepare me for playing Division 1 soccer.  Being a freshman, I was very nervous coming into preseason but, after our first few lifts, I realized how much Shelby had prepared me.  I could lift more than any freshman and was able to lift more than many upperclassmen.  My speed and agility was a major concern going into preseason.  However, thanks to Shelby’s guidance in the months leading up to preseason, I felt I made great strides in improving my overall athletic ability.  Shelby not only was a great trainer, he was a great person.  He was able to motivate you even on those days you didn’t feel like working out.  He offered encouragement as well as constructive criticism that only made you perform better.  I don’t know how many training sessions I had with Shelby, but I can’t remember one I didn’t have fun at or felt like I didn’t get something out of.  Shelby has been the best trainer I’ve worked with and has helped me improve in and out of the gym.  He earns the respect of every person/athlete he works with.  You immediately respect and trust him.  I wish he was down training me still.”

As a fitness professional myself, I was very particular when looking for a trainer for my teenage son.  He needed to have a professional background (not just a weekend certification); a person that was demanding a commitment from my son’ someone who has a proven knowledge of sport-specific training; and most importantly, a trainer that has a philosophy that fitness is a life-long endeavor.  Shelby embodies all of these traits and more... Both of my sons have been working out under Shelby’s guidance for almost two years.  My oldest son is a senior at Cheverus who plays both basketball and baseball and has transformed into a whole different type of athlete under Shelby’s cutting edge programs.  Quick, strong and confident.  My younger son is a freshman and plays soccer, basketball, and baseball.  I truly believe the sky is the limit if he dedicates himself to Shelby’s workouts as he started at a young age.  The results, plus always changing and fresh workout routines have kept both of my kids excited and eager to make themselves better.  If you know of better life lessons than success through hard work and pride in your performance, let me know.
